The Annual Charity Hockey Game: Utah’s Guns vs. Hoses

Community gathering at a Utah Guns and Hoses charity event

On Saturday, January 31, 2026, Utah’s Guns & Hoses tradition returned to the Maverik Center in West Valley City—where police officers and firefighters step onto the ice as rivals for an afternoon, then stand together as neighbors who protect us every day.

For many years, charity hockey games at the Maverik Center in West Valley City have pitted the “Guns” (law enforcement) against the “Hoses” (fire service). Local media have documented these matchups as fundraisers benefiting families of first responders and partner charities, including programs connected to burn injury support and cancer care.

Why the Game Matters

Event organizers have reported raising roughly $8,000–$10,000 in a single year from ticket sales and related activities, with much of the support directed toward families facing serious medical conditions. That scale may be modest compared with national telethons, but for a specific officer or firefighter’s household, it can be life-changing.

Utah Guns & Hoses Charity Inc. exists to steward charitable intent connected to this tradition—ensuring that community generosity is directed through a recognized 501(c)(3) structure (EIN 81-4165430).
